A new book in a line of children's books written by Ruthie Godfrey, God Made It All is a beautifully written and illustrated story that explores opposites while teaching that God made everything.
Godfrey has captured the idea of God creating everything in a new and fun way. Exploring opposites like highs and lows, laughter and tears, fast and slow, with each idea supported by an animal, person, food, plant and more that God has created, this book introduces the wealth of things God made from the visible to the unseen. The message is beautifully presented with images that support the story and further draw in the reader. Written simply enough that younger elementary children can read the words, but deep enough for the adult reader to fall in love with. This is just truly a beautiful book to share wtih the children in your life.
The illustrations in this book are just beautiful and engaging, with a broad depth of color, texture and detail. Children and adults alike can find themselves lost in the pictures as they page through the story. With a cover that captures eyes with it's many minute details, it is truly a fun book to look at as well as read!
My children have enjoyed reading and exploring this book with me, and it has opened up conversations about many different topics. We are curious, now, to check out more of Ruthie Godfrey's work!

With a wealth of children's Bibles available, why write another? Author Jeremy Pierre, along with illustrator Cassandra Clark set out to give a vibrant, beautiful answer to this question with their new release, "God With Us: A Journey Home". They want children to grow up knowing that this world is not our home, but instead a stop on the way home to Heaven. Their goal is to teach children this idea as young as possible to give them the tools to make sense out of our very sad, yet wonderful world. They aim to share their vision of our world as an in-between place and to begin guiding them toward bravery as they journey toward their true home with God.
Written more as a story than as a Bible, the reader gets lost in the beautiful imagery painted by the words. With language easy to understand, yet not babyish in talk, the child (or any reader) is invited to flow through the story a section at a time to understand the full story of the Bible in a condensed version that still honors the truths and the characters within. From the perspective of an onlooker, a heavenly observer, to the reader, it is a very personal letter that immerses the reader in the story fully, placing them at the center of the action.
This storybook is beautifully illustrated with images that are vibrantly colored. With pictures more like those of a graphic novel than of a child's Bible, this book is more appropriate for 5 and up, but still appropriate and friendly enough for younger eyes as well, just not as cartoonish.
My children and I have enjoyed exploring this book, not only soaking in the story, but also studying the pictures, which tell a story all on their own. With a wealth of pages to explore, a message I want my kids to hear, and a format friendly to kids, this is a win for me and going on my list of books to recommend!

Penguin & Moose
Written by Hannah C. Hall
Illustrated by Anna Chernyshova
A truly adorable tale of friendship amid trial and struggle, Penguin & Moose tugs at the heart strings as it warms the soul!
Penguin wants to fly so badly, and as he tries different ways, his trusted and true friend Moose sticks by his side, helping him try to achieve his goals while offering kindness and support along the way. Penguin learns a lesson about friendship and the value of being himself.
The story is inviting to all readers, with simple terms and words to reach the youngest readers and listeners, yet a deep enough meaning to engage the oldest of readers as well. The story line follows Penguin through silly ideas that make the reader giggle and wraps up with warm fuzzies and the comforting, knowledgeable father figure imparting wisdom. With adorable illustrations that draw the reader deeper into the story, the pictures add as much to the story as the words do.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story, as did my children. This will become a staple on our book shelf, to be sure. With lessons of friendship and self-acceptance, the content is as great educationally as it is entertaining. I loved flipping each page to see what would happen next. I recommend this book for children of all ages!
The Robin's First Christmas is an adorable story that pulls at your heart strings while relaying the message of God's love. Having read the previous book in the series of Unlikely Heroes, "The Donkey's First Christmas" and immediately loved it, I was excited to have a chance to read this book, and I was not disappointed. The Robin's version of the first Christmas is just as sweet and entertaining, an instant classic at our house.
The little Robin loved to sing, but was told he was not special or good enough over and over, (he stammers, though that fact is not directly pointed out as such) so he decided to remain silent, believing that truth spoken over him. It was not until a cold December night when he observed a fire in a stable that he experienced a love like never before and realized his value through an act of service.
The story is told in a rhyme fashion, easy and quick to read yet loaded with depth and value. The illustrations are sweet and cute, immediately drawing the reader in with the simplicity yet detailed depictions. It is one of those books the kids want to hear over and over agan that I don't mind reading repeatedly.
I absolutely love that a portion of proceds from the sale of the book go to www.stamma.org, an organization that existst to help create a better world for people who stammer. A book with a great message in an enticing manner that also does good with it's sales? That's a huge win for me! I am proud to support this author and her fantastic works!
Another book in the Joyful Creation Series, this book follows suit and fits right in. It is adorable in illustration, beautiful realistic images that are endearing and familiar. The story leads the reader through the idea that God loves variety and talks about various different jungle creatures and the unique properties of those depicted, from size to color to camouflage. Each page is simple in text and awash with illustration, drawing children in. There is so much to look at on each page that the reader spends much longer than text requires.
I loved the story for its content and simplicity as well as the beautiful images filling each page. There was so much for me to talk about with my nature loving children. We especially appreciated the index at the back with the name and picture of animals depicted in the story as well as a bit of information about them. Also included are Bible verses supporting the creation story in relation to the animals.
We enjoyed another of the Joyful Creation books and were glad to have the chance to review this one as well. I recommend it for its fun and conversation opportunities as well as its beauty and simplicity.
Each time a movie with Christian values and a Godly theme succeed in the big world of theater going movie consumers, I rejoice that the word of God is getting out there and maintain hope for the big world so riddled with pain and trouble. Today, I rejoice in the success and new release of the movie "The Star" which was in theaters around Christmas.
If you haven't seen "The Star" yet, you are missing out on a super cute re-telling of the Christmas story from a new and unique point of view. My family had the opportunity to see it on Christmas Eve and enjoyed it thoroughly. It is appropriate for even the littlest of children, with a rating of PG for some thematic elements, but entertaining and engaging for the big ones and adults too! A full length feature (86 minutes) with big name voice actors, such as Tracy Morgan, Oprah Winfrey, Tyler Perry, Kelly Clarkson, Patricia Heaton and more, this film offers a whole lot of humor and a fresh perspective brings life the journey of Mary and Joseph and the birth of Christ in a brand new way.
Through the eyes of Bo, a spirited young donkey who finds plenty of ways to get into mischief with his friends, the Christmas story unfolds. Along Bo's journey from stubborn will to a realization of the bigger picture, viewers see the story unfolding through the eyes of animals who take on funny characteristics and do silly things that keep children giggling. Familiar and new songs run through the story and add content to the story.
My children have been asking since viewing the move in theater when we can buy a copy so we can watch it again, so I am very excited about the release of the movie and am set to buy my copy this week!

You will also find details on the video bonus features, which includes sing along videos from Mariah Carey, Fifth Harmony, Kelsea Ballerini, A Great Big World and Kirk Franklin. Additionally, there is a "Faith All Year Round Children's Sermon" with Devon Franklin, which discusses the themes of the film and how to keep that spirit alive all year round. Also among the bonus features is a recipe, a craft and a chance to meet the All-Star cast.
Ever since I saw the child of a friend of mine wearing Frogglez, I knew I had to get my hands on them for my kids!
Frogglez, for those who are unfamiliar, are about the best thing since sliced bread for the swimming pool. Think goggles only without the flimsy stretchy band that breaks or pulls out of the loops or rips hair out. Think wetsuit meets goggles. And man are these things cute and cool!
Available in a variety of colors, I opted for pink because, lets face it, I'm surrounded by princesses who demand nothing but. The Frogglez come with a set of goggles and a stretchy headband, all connected. They are easily switched out for any goggles owned in the house by simply releasing the Velcro tab and feeding it through the attachment loop, putting that loop into your own goggles and then re-attaching the Velcro tab. Super simple!
What's even better is that they go on easily! No more fighting a wet child flopping and squealing like a fish out of water as you try to wrestle the goggles on - not too tight, not too loose, 18 times in a row until they are perfect. Frogglez can easily adjust with the Velcro bands on the sides. The headband slips over the child's head with ease and wraps the top and the back, eliminating all of that sliding around those silly elastic bands do.
Now the kid can swim and dive and jump and fight water ninjas without having to ask Mom over and over to fix them. They seal pretty well too. While I've not had the opportunity to actually put mine in the water, since it's below freezing here, I have to go with dry results for now, but they feel snug and cup around the eyes well. No gaps or cheap plastic that is mis-formed.
I love also that I can use these with multiple children. I put them on my three year old and then switched them to my 8 year old and had no trouble at all! None of the kids complained, in fact they were eager to continue to wear them around the house like superheroes, and were quite disappointed when they were repossessed by Mom.
I will absolutely be buying several more pairs of these, because let's face it, one pair for 4 kids is not going to cut it! I can't wait for summer so we can really test these things out, but I am very optimistic bases on what my hands and eyes have seen and held and from the reports of my friend, that these will be my new favorite pool accessory for the kids!

I love traditions and fun things that keep my kids involved in what is going on with the family. We try to celebrate a lot of things together, the big holidays and the small personal victories too. When I got the chance to try out the Family Honor Plate and Let's Talk cards, I couldn't say yes fast enough!
The Family Honor Plate comes in a kit with everything you need to personalize it and make it your very own. It is very well packaged and easy to get to.
Within in the kit, you will find the plate, paints, nice pain brushes (not the cheapy ones with bristles that fall off or handles that give slivers), a paint tray with spots to mix colors and a plate stand.
The plate is a nice, heavy, finished piece that should stand up to regular wear and tear. On it is printed "Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness and Self Control"
The idea behind the Family Honor Plate is to honor a member of the family when they have displayed one of the attributes in their daily life. This can be used for every day or on more special, larger event occasions, the choice is completely up to the family. Imagine little Susie steps out of her comfort zone and helps a new student at school, or little Johnny has a great report card after lots of hard work... Maybe Dad earns a promotion or Mom remembers to be patient on a very trying day... There are so many ways to use this plate! The fun thing is that anyone can decide who should get to use it, not just Dad or Mom.
Available separately but to compliment the plate are the Let's Talk Table Thyme cards.
On a convenient flip pad, there are more than enough to fill a year with a new question each day. These are questions that invite each member to contribute thoughts and ideas and spur conversation. Even the little ones can do this!
On a sturdy cardboard stand, this set holds up nice and is easy to use.
The included paint is designed to be baked, hardening and setting up after a 30 minute bake time. With 8 colors: red, white, black, blue, orange, yellow, purple, green, there is enough color to make any picture or design you wish, and enough white to mix colors and make your own. We were sad to find that, in our box, though the paint cups were well sealed (and easy to open, thank you!) the red was completely solid and that the blue, purple and yellow were chunky and on their way to becoming solid as well. We were able to limp them along with a little water, but they did not apply smoothly or offer us much. Big bummer there!
My children were very excited to get started on the plate! We decided for ours we would let each member do their own section. As my children are younger, one just 10 months old, this will surely become a treasure as they grow in addition to the fun it will add as we use it to honor one another.
My older three worked very diligently, each perfecting her masterpiece.
Dad, Mom and baby added their parts and then it was time to bake. The baking process was super easy! Just put the plate in a cold oven, turn it on to 350 and set a timer for 30 minutes once the oven reaches temperature. After the timer goes off, turn the oven off and let the plate cool with the oven. That's it! And it's now ready to eat on.
We opted not to paint on the center of the plate, as suggested, to avoid having paint get scraped off with use. The children were very pleased with the end result and Dad and Mom agree it turned out pretty cute!
We have already put it to use, honoring our oldest daughter for her kindness to a new child at church, helping to bring the child to her class and befriend her for the whole day so she would not be lonely. What fun to give her the special plate! She had fun being the special person and the other children were chatting about how they might be able to get the plate too.
Here are some videos to walk you through the Family Honor Plate:

When God Made You
by Matthew Paul Turner
Illustrated by David Catrow
When God Made You is a fun book that has value for young and old alike. Readers follow a young girl in pictures as the story talks about things God valued and considered in making her, and creating her to be special and unique. As the pages progress, the illustrations take on more color and brightness, becoming more exciting with each page turn, leading readers to a final thought that "You being you is God's dream coming true".
As a mom of four, each so unique and special, I have enjoyed reading this book to each child and talking about what makes them special. While the overlying theme is that God made them to be individual, there are many specific examples listed within the story, and each child could find something about themselves being talked about in the story.
Illustrations are bright and engaging, cartoonish but realistic. Features are friendly and inviting and the increasing color and design invite readers to continue exploring. Even I enjoyed looking at the pictures for their boldness and fun.
This is a very encouraging book to read to young children, and can easily be read by younger readers as well. It lends itself to many conversations about God and individual qualities and how we are each carefully crafted by His hand to be perfect in His sight. We have all enjoyed this book in my home and I would recommend it to other parents as well.
* I was provided a copy of this book for free in exchange for my honest and un-biased review as a part of the Book Crash review program.
My children love to learn about animals. We have many books about different creatures in our home. This new book, Made for a Purpose, is a welcome addition to our library and has been enjoyed many times over by my three little ones.
As children read though this book, they discover many familiar creatures, like the turtle, duck, frog, fish and more - animals often found in or near pond areas. For each animal, there is discussion about what their unique features are made for, the things that make them special and individual from all others. The book completes by pointing out that, just like the animals, God has created them for a purpose that is just as special and unique as the animals.
Illustrations are done in watercolor, by the author. Colors are inviting and true to nature, scenes are realistic, and the animals are painted to look as they would in real life.
Made for a Purpose invites young readers to explore the idea that they are even more special than the animals God has created and that each of us was made for a purpose, a special reason. We have enjoyed reading this book together, talking about each of the animals, and welcomed the discussions that have developed as they learned through this book. The first in the Joyful Creation series to be written, there are sure to be more engaging books to come from this author.

I recently had the opportunity to be a participant in an EQtainment Party, where I was exposed to the world of Q Wunder.
The party pack came with a board game, coloring book, travel game and weighted Q monkey.
The travel game included three sets of cards - Do, Q and You. These are the same sets of cards included in the board game, but in a much smaller tin meant just for conversation while traveling. The cards ask children questions about what they might do in a situation, give them opportunity to explore feelings and emotions and learn appropriate responses.
The board game contains a board, the same sets of questions and markers as well as instructions for play. Play is easy and follows basic board game rules with turn taking. Colors are bright and engaging, and the game is fun for children.
The die and game markers are large in size, easy for small hands to manage.
The weighted monkey is provided to teach children the value of taking time to calm down and relax. By placing Q the monkey on the child's chest, they are to breathe in for three counts and then out for three counts, over and over, inducing a sense of calm as they watch Q rise and fall.
The EQtainment folks have put thought into creating this resource for building emotional awareness and development for young children, a valuable skill in a world that has them rushing around and rarely taking time to be calm or quiet.
My children (2, 4, 6) have enjoyed playing with these toys and games and I, as mom, see a lot of value in these products.
In addition to the physical products, we were also able to use the app and watch the Q-Wunder show thanks to Tryazon. My children have enjoyed participating in those as well, and they each offer enrichment and enhancement to the Q family of products.

The Biggest Story
written and illustrated by Kevin DeYoung
Never have I seen such a beautifully created adaptation of the Bible's big story as now. The Biggest Story is a quick overview of the Bible, from creation through main stories and characters, to the cross and the ideas of the New Heaven and New Earth. Broken into 10 chapters, the audio and visual versions of the book offer listeners and viewers a 30 minute trip through the Bible. Each chapter covers a different main event. When listened to in succession, the participant gains an overview of the greatest love story ever written.
Participants are introduced to Jesus as the Snake Crusher. From the beginning, the story is never overtly about becoming a Christian. Instead, it offers a Biblical history lesson with the underlying theme that God loves each of us and, throughout time, has sought to love and protect us. The stories of the Crucifixion and resurrection as well as the coming of a new era are introduced gently and without preaching or the feeling of judgment. This is a simply beautiful presentation of God's love, His story (and ours), and the opportunity available to those who wish to accept it.
The animated illustrations in the film version are just breathtaking. Adapted from the book, the slide show type film offers movement in each scene and beautiful illustrations that engage and attract viewers. Even my youngest child, age 2, was drawn in by the pictures, sounds and music in the DVD and, though she didn't understand the story, was engaged for quite some time. My older children, 4 and 6, sat through the entire video, glued to the story.
The audio CD offers those on the move the same opportunity to hear the story, only without the visuals. Same story, same audio track. DeYoung's voice is calming, his narration clear and filled with ups and downs to keep the listener engaged. It is just like listening to someone read the book to you.
Pastor, husband and parent of seven, Kevin DeYoung has captured the big story of the Bible and packaged it in a way that is inviting to all, Christian and non-Christian. His wording offers some humor hidden beneath the story, the kind that has an adult tipping their hat to his references. Children love to listen to his story telling style. Whether child or adult, there is enjoyment in hearing this as well as immense pleasure in viewing it.
While we have never owned or even held a copy of the book for ourselves, I now want to go out and buy it. This glimpse into the book has made me desire to own a copy for my shelf that we can read as well. I don't know that I have ever been so in love with a book, video or audio so much as this one, and not just because I am a believer. This is truly a masterpiece and anyone who has the chance to see or hear it will be blessed.
Would a Worm Go on a Walk?
by Hannah C. Hall
Illustrated by Bill Bolton
Would a Worm Go on a Walk? is a cute story that walks children through the idea that each animal is created to be unique and has its own special qualities. Reading through the story, children entertain the idea that a worm could go on a walk, or a piglet play the piano, or a lion be a lifeguard. Children meet nine different animals in the book, each suggesting they do something different than they were designed for. The book finishes with the reader learning that just like the animals who cannot do anything other than what they were designed for, children are the same. God created each of us with our own strengths, abilities and gifts and not one of us is imperfect or wrong. Through this story, a child discovers that they are equally as unique and special just the way they are.
Based on the Bible verse from Genesis 1:31a "God saw all that he had made, and it was very good", the author spins a tale that leaves children giggling and learning at the same time. The illustrations in this book are bright and engaging, with cartoon depictions of each animal doing the silly things they are proposed to be able to do. Pictures have enough silly in them to keep kids engaged and giggling while still realistic enough to be recognizable and relatable. My children, ages 6, 4, and 2 have loved reading this book over and over, and I have enjoyed reading it to them. This is a book that will stay on my shelf for years to come!
* I received this book for free in exchange for my review. All opinions expressed are my own.
With little people in my house, a nightlight is a necessity. I have used the kind with replaceable bulbs that get turned on and off, but never found that as convenient as the idea of a self-regulating light. I decided to purchase these LED night lights by Lunara and give them a shot.
The lights come two to a pack, and are packaged in a thick plastic case that needs to be cut away.
Inside are two lights that plug into outlets.
A photo sensor on the bottom of the light signals when to illuminate.
When lit, these lights give off a soft yellow glow. Bright enough to see, but not overpowering, blinding or disruptive.
We have placed one of these in our children's room and another leading up the stairway for easier night travel. For those who are sensitive to lights in the room, this light will bother you. It is best in a passageway or outside in a room that does not directly connect to the sleeping area. Though it is not bright, it is still a constant light that stays on from dusk until dawn.
So far, I am impressed with these little lights. They have eased bedtime troubles for my little ones and illuminate stairs that can be dangerous in the dark. Easy to use, easy to maintain, there is no reason not to give these lights a shot for yourself.
I had been looking for an appropriate devotional to use with my young children at home when the opportunity to review this devotional Bible came my way. I was immediately impressed with this book the minute I held it in my hands. This is a high quality hard covered book filled with color pictures, 130 of them! While it is in fact an actual Bible in the ESV (English Standard Version) translation, it is also a devotional too. The perfect combination that puts everything in your hands for family devotion time with children in the home.
Each devotional story is on a colored page. The illustrations that go with each devotional are high quality, full detail, painting like pictures - not cartoonish, but featuring real looking people and scenes. The devotional stories fall in line with their location in the Bible, so they can be used individually or as a family study. The Biblical references are provided for the story's location within the Bible as well as a verse for memorization or discussion that ties the story to the surrounding scripture.
The devotion stories are written in a way that young children (ages 4+) can understand, while being complex and detailed enough to challenge older children into their early teens. The common children's bible stories are discussed within the devotionals, such as Adam & Eve, David & Goliath, Jonah, etc. as well as many more not so mainstream stories. Following each story are a few questions to prompt discussion and further learning for the devotional time. With younger children, we have skipped over this section most times, just focusing on the stories for now, but I will definitely be going back around to use these again in a few years.
I have enjoyed this book as an adult, and have learned things I had not before picked up or heard. The questions have prompted me to think and I love the potential they provide for teaching my children. My children (4 & 6) have learned things and really enjoyed exploring the pictures as well as hearing the many different stories. All around, I love this book and have already been telling my friends with children all about it and recommending it. This is a perfect combo book for every Christian family with children!

I purchased some new TV straps because I have always been afraid that one day my little ones are going to knock over our big screen TV on themselves and get injured. When I got them in the mail, please see that they were very simply packaged with very little extra stuff to deal with.
Installation was a snap! The two straps simply screwed in-place to the back of the TV with included bolts. From there, one simply attaches the bottom half of the strap to the TV stand with also included screws. Straps are adjustable fort. Heights televisions which was very nice as well. Now that they are a catch, I feel very secure that my TV will not tip forward. We have even tested this a little bit by gauging on the TV gently and it is not going anywhere. I am very pleased with this product and will be recommending it to my friends with children.
Think Fun, one of my favorite game companies, has released another fun learning game for kids. This time, the focus is on learning math facts.
Math Dice Chase is designed to be used played with 4-6 players 3rd grade and older, as it is made to be played using multiplication facts. The play of the game is simple. Two people on opposite sides of the table each roll their pair of colored dice and then multiply the two numbers and state the answer (which can be checked by observing players). Once a fact is answered correctly, the dice pass to the next player and continues around. The challenge comes in the fact that each person takes a different length of time to roll and solve, causing the dice to eventually catch up with the same person. This is how the "Hot Potato" factor of the game plays in. The idea is to stay ahead of the other set of dice so as not to be caught holding both pairs of dice.
This game comes with a storage bag, instructions and four 12-sided dice - two in blue and two in purple.
The dice are fairly large in size, not your basic black and white dotted playing dice. These are kid friendly, big enough for little hands to easily pick up and roll without slipping out of hands with lesser fine motor skills. The numbers are easily read and well etched into the dice so as not to rub off with regular play.
It all stores nicely in a small bag to keep pieces together.
We have had fun playing this game as intended with the whole family as well as in an adapted form one-on-one with some of our littles. The game can easily be adapted for addition or subtraction using the same game play rules, or just for practice. It is also handy to take on road trips or use for quiet times. There are so many math learning possibilities for this game beyond the written rules. This is why I love ThinkFun so much! The games they create are high quality, learning heavy and easily used for learning and fun beyond the intended use. Another addition to our educational manipulatives that I will be holding on to for years to come!
